1. What Are Cookies And Local Storage
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. Local storage (also called “Web Storage”) is a similar browser mechanism that allows websites to store data locally on your device. Under Section 25 TDDDG, both cookies and local storage are subject to the same rules regarding consent and information.
2. Storage Technologies We Currently Use
We use a single first-party local storage entry to record your consent choice, plus Google Analytics and PostHog cookies that are set only after you give consent via the cookie banner:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | Party | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| cookie-consent | localStorage | Stores whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies so the site honours your choice across pages and visits. | Until you change it or clear your browser storage | First-party | Strictly necessary |
| _ga | Cookie | Google Analytics — distinguishes unique users by assigning a randomly generated identifier. | 2 years | Third-party (Google Ireland Ltd.) | Analytics (consent required) |
| _ga_<container-id> | Cookie | Google Analytics 4 — persists session state for the specific GA4 property. | 2 years | Third-party (Google Ireland Ltd.) | Analytics (consent required) |
| ph_<project-id>_posthog | Cookie | PostHog — assigns an anonymous identifier to measure product usage and feature interactions. | 1 year | Third-party (PostHog) | Analytics (consent required) |
The cookie-consententry is set only when you interact with the cookie consent banner. The Google Analytics and PostHog cookies are set only after you actively click “Accept” in the cookie banner; if you decline, no analytics cookies are set.
3. Legal Basis
The cookie-consent entry qualifies as strictly necessary to honour the consent choice you expressly made. It is therefore exempt from the consent requirement under Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG. The corresponding GDPR legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in documenting and respecting your consent choice).
Google Analytics and PostHog cookies require your consent under Section 25(1) TDDDG. The corresponding GDPR legal basis is Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent). You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future (see Section 6).
4. What We Do Not Use
This website does not use:
- Cross-site tracking or profiling cookies
- Fingerprinting or similar tracking techniques
- Third-party cookies other than Google Analytics and PostHog and Google Ads
With your consent, we use Google Ads conversion measurement with Google Consent Mode. When you accept, the Google tag may set cookies (e.g. _gcl_*) to measure whether your visit came from a Google ad and led to an action such as a sign-up or purchase. No advertising cookies are set unless you consent; if you decline, no cookies are stored and conversions may be estimated without cookies. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG), withdrawable at any time.
5. Analytics Services
We use Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Google Analytics uses the cookies listed in the table above to help us understand how visitors use our website.
Information collected includes pages visited, actions taken, approximate location (derived from a truncated IP address), device and browser details, and referring URL. We have enabled IP anonymisation and concluded a data processing agreement with Google pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR.
Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the United States. The transfer is based on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework adequacy decision of the European Commission of 10 July 2023 (C(2023) 4745), under which Google LLC is certified.
For full details, see Section 9 of our Privacy Policy. You can install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
We also use PostHog, a product-analytics service operated by PostHog, Inc. (San Francisco, USA). We use PostHog’s EU Cloud, which stores data on servers located in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany). When you consent, PostHog sets theph_<project-id>_posthog cookie to assign an anonymous identifier. Information collected includes pages visited, clicks and interactions, approximate location (derived from a truncated IP address), and device and browser details. We do not enable session recording. We have concluded a data processing agreement with PostHog pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR.
Although data is stored in the EU, PostHog, Inc. in the United States may access it for support and operations; such transfers are safeguarded by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. The legal basis is your consent(Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG), withdrawable at any time with effect for the future (see Section 6).
