Refund & Withdrawal Policy

This policy explains when you can withdraw from a subscription under your statutory right of withdrawal (Widerrufsrecht) and when we will issue a goodwill refund outside of that right.

Last updated: April 17, 2026

1. Summary

If you are a consumer in the EU, you have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal after subscribing. If you have not yet started using the paid service during that period, you can cancel and get a full refund. In addition, we offer a goodwill refund for unused subscriptions even outside the 14-day window — just email us.

2. Who This Applies To

This policy applies to consumers within the meaning of § 13 BGB (natural persons entering into a contract for purposes that are predominantly outside their trade, business, or profession) who subscribe to a paid plan on CheckMyThesis.

Business customers (§ 14 BGB) do not have a statutory right of withdrawal but may contact us regarding goodwill refunds as described below.

3. Statutory Right Of Withdrawal (Widerrufsrecht)

Right of withdrawal. You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason. The withdrawal period is 14 days from the date on which the contract was concluded (i.e., the day you completed your subscription purchase).

How to exercise this right. To exercise your right of withdrawal, you must inform us by means of a clear statement (e.g., a letter sent by post or an email). You may use the model withdrawal form at the end of this page, but it is not mandatory. It is sufficient to send the notice of withdrawal before the 14-day period has expired. Send your withdrawal to:

Dr. Jan Philip Wahle and Lars Kaesberg
Siedlungsweg 24, 37124 Rosdorf, Germany
Email: [email protected]

Consequences of withdrawal. If you withdraw, we will reimburse all payments received from you for the withdrawn subscription period without undue delay and no later than 14 days after we receive your withdrawal notice. We will use the same means of payment used for the original transaction unless you expressly agree otherwise; no fees will be charged for the reimbursement.

4. When The Right Of Withdrawal Expires Early

Our offering is a digital service within the meaning of §§ 327 ff. BGB. Under § 356(5) BGB, the right of withdrawal expires early if all three of the following conditions are met:

  • You have expressly consented to us beginning to provide the service before the end of the 14-day withdrawal period;
  • You have confirmed that you acknowledge losing your right of withdrawal once performance has been fully completed;
  • We have fully performed the service.

For ongoing subscription services, the right of withdrawal remains available during the 14-day period even if you have begun to use the service, but we may charge you a pro-rata fee for the portion of the service already provided up to the moment you inform us of the withdrawal (§ 357a(2) BGB).

5. Goodwill Refund For Unused Subscriptions

In addition to the statutory right of withdrawal, we offer a voluntary goodwill refund if you have not yet used the paid service:

  • Eligible. You subscribed to a paid plan but have not performed any paid citation checks, AI-detection scans, plagiarism scans, or other metered paid actions since the subscription started. Logging in, viewing your account, or running free-tier checks does not count as use.
  • How to request. Email us at [email protected] from the address on your account with the subject “Refund request”. Include the date of your subscription and, if available, the payment receipt or transaction ID.
  • Turnaround. We typically confirm refund requests within 5 business days. The refund is returned via the original payment method and usually arrives within 5–10 business days after confirmation.

This goodwill refund is offered at our discretion and is separate from, and does not limit, your statutory rights in Sections 3 and 4.

6. Refunds For Service Outages

We do not offer a service-level agreement or uptime guarantee (see Section 6 of our Terms of Service). If, however, the paid service is unavailable for an extended continuous period that materially prevents you from using the features included in your plan, email us at [email protected] and we will, at our discretion, extend your billing period or issue a partial refund covering the affected time. Your statutory warranty rights under §§ 327e ff. BGB remain unaffected.

7. Chargebacks

Before initiating a chargeback with your bank or card issuer, please contact us — we can usually resolve the issue faster directly. Chargebacks filed while a refund request is actively being processed may delay the refund.

8. Model Withdrawal Form
